The International Workshop on Information Literacy 2006 was a week-long event organized by the Faculty of Information Management of the Universiti Teknologi Mara, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) / Action for Development Through Libraries Programme (ALP), the Librarians Association of Malaaysia, Malaysia's Ministry of Education's Educational Technology Division, and Selangor State Educational Resource Center.
The workshop held from 7-12 June 2006 aimed to enable professional input from participating South East Asian countries on how to develop and implement information literacy programs, to learn from the experiences of participating countries and develop strategies in designing information literacy modules for primary and secondary schools, and to develop and package information literacy modules as guides for teachers in Malaysian schools.
Malaysian participants were composed of librarians, teachers, and representatives from the different divisions of the Monistry of Education like Curriculum Development Centre, State Educational Resource Centers, and School Training Division. Foreign participants were librarians from Brunei, India, Indonesia, Philippines (that would be me), Singapore, and Thailand.
I missed the Day 1 activities because I arrived at the hotel at 9:30 pm just when the program wrapped up. Halida Yu, a lecturer at the Faculty of Information Management at UiTm who met me at the airport told me that I missed the icebreaker session but assured me that I won't be missing a lot.
The venue of the workshop was at the Shah Village Hotel in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. See shots of the hotel lobby courtesy of Abd. Wahi.
